Review quality and how we ensure it

Every video review collected through Reviewers.com goes through multiple layers of quality control - from Reviewer vetting before they even join the community, to AI-powered checks on every submission, to tools that let you guide who can participate in your campaigns and the content you receive. This article explains what a quality review looks like, how we maintain standards, and what you can do to get the most out of your campaigns.

What makes a quality video review?

To be accepted into the community, Reviewers must submit a sample review to prove they're able to create a high-quality video. Their submission is then evaluated for quality - most don't pass, and only those who meet our standards are accepted. Once they've been accepted, Reviewers are expected to follow these guidelines for every video they submit:

  • Show the product clearly - Hold it up, demonstrate it, and make it the focus of the video
  • Use good lighting - Make sure both the product and the Reviewer are clearly visible
  • Speak clearly, in English - Use clear audio, avoid background noise, and make sure viewers can understand what's being said
  • Be visible and engaging - Show your face and talk to the camera like you're speaking to a friend
  • Share meaningful, honest feedback - Explain what you like about the product, describe its features, and talk about its uses

These aren't suggestions - they're the baseline for every review. Reviewers who don't meet these standards during the vetting process aren't approved to join the community, and reviews that don't meet them during a campaign are flagged and returned for revision.

How AI quality checks work

Every video review submitted through Reviewers.com is analyzed by our AI before it's approved. The AI evaluates each submission against our community standards, checking for:

  • Video clarity - Is the product visible? Is the lighting adequate?
  • Audio quality - Is the Reviewer's voice clear? Is there distracting background noise?
  • Content quality - Does the Reviewer share meaningful feedback about the product? Is the review substantive enough?
  • On-camera presence - Is the Reviewer visible and engaging?

If a review doesn't pass the AI analysis, the Reviewer receives specific feedback on what needs to improve and is prompted to resubmit.

Note: Reviewers can't edit their videos after submission, which is why their initial review must meet our quality guidelines before they can submit it. Keep in mind that Reviewers share their honest opinions, even if it's not only positive feedback.

How you can guide the reviews you receive

While all reviews are honest and unscripted, you have tools to shape the type of content you get back.

Write a campaign brief

During campaign creation, you can write a short brief for your Reviewers. This is your chance to guide what they highlight in the video - without scripting their words.

Good brief suggestions include asking Reviewers to:

  • Mention your brand name
  • Focus on a specific product feature
  • Show the unboxing experience
  • Demonstrate the product in use
  • Film in a specific setting (outdoors, kitchen, gym, etc.)

Your brief is shown to Reviewers during the review submission process under a "A note from the brand" section, so they see your guidance right before they film. The brief should be short and to the point.

Note: Keep your brief focused on product features and filming guidance. Avoid telling Reviewers what to say, asking for only positive feedback, or providing scripted language. Reviews that feel genuine perform better with shoppers, and our community standards require honest opinions.

Add screening questions

You can add up to 3 yes/no qualifying questions to determine who can review your product. Only Reviewers who give a qualifying answer on all questions are accepted to your campaign - the rest are automatically declined.

This is helpful when your product is designed for a specific audience. For example:

  • "Do you practice yoga or meditation?" (for a yoga mat campaign)
  • "Do you wear makeup daily?" (for a cosmetics brand)
  • "Do you have a cat?" (for a pet product)

Screening questions help ensure the Reviewers who participate are a natural fit for your product, which leads to more relevant and authentic reviews. Keep in mind that each screening question you add reduces the eligible pool of Reviewers who can participate in your campaign. If your questions are too specific, you may not get enough matches to fill up all the slots in your campaign.

FAQs

Q: Can I reject a review I don't like?

A: Reviews collected through Reviewers.com are FTC-compliant, honest and unscripted. You can choose not to use a review elsewhere, but you can't request that a Reviewer revise their review. You can, however, submit feedback to us on any review you receive via the Manage Reviews Page by clicking on the thumbs down button on the review video.

Q: What if a Reviewer gives a negative review?

A: Negative reviews happen - and they can actually help build trust with shoppers. A mix of honest opinions is more credible than all five-star reviews. That said, all reviews still need to meet our quality standards for video and audio.

Q: Can I ask Reviewers to reshoot their video?

A: You can't request a reshoot. If a review doesn't meet the quality standards of our AI QA checker, the Reviewer is automatically prompted to resubmit. If you have concerns about a specific review, contact our support team.

Q: Do Reviewers see my brief before filming?

A: Yes. Your brief appears as "A note from the brand" during the review submission process. Reviewers see it right before they film their video.

Q: What if I don't write a brief?

A: Reviewers will still follow our community standards for quality. The brief is optional but recommended if you want to highlight specific product features or guide the style of the video.

Q: Are the reviews FTC compliant?

A: Yes. Reviews collected through Reviewers.com meet FTC guidelines for transparency. Reviewers must give their honest opinion in their reviews and are not required to give a specific rating.
